Health & Wellbeing at Work 

Health and Wellbeing at Work looks at increasingly productivity by improving workplace health

Investors in People has been working with the Department of Health aims to develop business through addressing health and wellbeing in the workplace.

Background
We believe that organisations who successfully address the issue of Health and Wellbeing at Work can significantly address the following issues:

Improving Reducing
Loyalty and advocacy Staff turnover
Morale costs Absence Rates
Staff retention Agency cover costs
Productivity Health Insurance
Quality and customer satisfaction Litigation costs

Recruitment costs

The Investors in People Standard already provides the foundation for wellbeing at work. However, in order to help organisations improve, additional focus has been developed.

Our aim with Health & Wellbeing at Work is to establish whether this new focus is relevant to include in our Standard when it is next reviewed.

We have now piloted this new focus with over 350 organisations around the UK.  Evaluations of three pilot periods have provided some very positive feedback indicating many employers value this new foucs.

As part of the development of this project, Investors in People have developed a Health and Wellbeing at Work Self-Check
available here that provides an indication as to how your organisation may perform on this important issue based on our current framework.

Getting Involved
With Investors in People nearing the end of the development phase of this work, a small amount of piloting is scheduled for the late summer/early autumn 2008
.  However, for organisaitons wanting to look at health and wellbeing in more detail as part of their Investors in People assessment, the forthcoming New Choice apporach will provide this opportunity.  Click here to find out mroe about New Choices.
