This project which Investors in People has been working with the Department of Health aims to develop a business improvement tool through addressing the health and wellbeing of employees. We believe that organisations who successfully address the issue of Health and Wellbeing at Work can significantly address the following issues:
| Loyalty and advocacy |
Staff turnover |
| Morale costs |
Absence Rates |
| Staff retention |
Agency cover costs |
| Productivity |
Health Insurance |
| Quality and customer satisfaction |
Litigation costs |
|
Recruitment costs |
The Investors in People Standard already provides the foundation for emotional and psychological wellbeing at work within its current criteria – including for example its requirements for employees to be involved in decision-making and for them to receive constructive feedback. The development of the new Health & Wellbeing at Work framework is therefore seen as a natural extension to the Investors in People Standard.
Our aim with Health & Wellbeing at Work is to establish whether additional health and wellbeing criteria can be added into the Standard and Profile when these are next reviewed. After a successful 1st and 2nd pilot, Investors in People UK will be conducting a further 150 pilots between August 2007 and February 2008.
Effective people management and providing Health and Wellbeing support mechanisms for your people are the key components of the framework as they enable your workforce and your company face any challenges. The Health and Wellbeing framework promotes the need to go beyond legal requirements to manage and address risks to health, in making these small changes you will be able to notice a big difference in people’s health.
If you are scheduled to have Investors in People Standard or Profile asessment review between August 2007 and February 2008, please click here to find out more about the project and how you can get involved.
In addition to the 3rd pilot, Investors in People have developed a Health and Wellbeing at Work Self-Check available here that provides an indication as to how your organisation may perform on this important issue based on our current framework.
Our website also includes further information regarding other health and wellbeing related work for organisations also available that are available here.
